[Presenter]: ...about the significance of an attack on Iran, about Gilad Shalit, and more. Among the many journalists who heard these remarks in Damascus was Mabat correspondent Gideon Kouts, who landed in Paris a short while ago, and we will also be able to see him and hear his impressions as an Israeli journalist in Syria right away. First, let’s hear a short excerpt from his report from Damascus today on Kol Yisrael.

[Gideon Kouts]: There is a clear desire here for peace and for the continuation of negotiations on the part of the Syrian government. At every press conference we attended, President Assad repeated that he was interested in continuing the process. From conversations one could have with Syrians in the street, I spoke, for example, with a man who runs a tourism office here, and he is very enthusiastic about the possibility of peace. He says that interest in Syria has already increased because of the opening of the peace talks. On the other hand, there is a serious problem here. In fact, from the moment we arrived, another journalist from a Jewish media outlet and I received a rather... unique... rather violent welcome.
